Great evaluations do not prove that leadership changed.
A workshop can be engaging, relevant and highly rated while producing little lasting change.
The real test begins when deadlines tighten, conflict appears and participants return to an environment that either supports the new behavior or quietly defeats it.
The program may have succeeded as an event and failed as a change effort.
Warning signs include:
- Participants cannot identify what they changed
- Their managers were barely involved
- Learning goals were not connected to observable behavior
- Participants received little realistic practice
- There were no workplace commitments
- Nobody followed up
- Success was measured only through attendance and satisfaction
- Existing systems continued rewarding the old behavior
K4P designs from application backward.
Before selecting content, determine:
- What are leaders doing now?
- What should they do instead?
- Where should the behavior appear?
- Who will observe it?
- What will participants practice?
- What will their managers reinforce?
- What evidence should appear after 30, 60 or 90 days?
What happened after your last leadership program?
If the answer is “not enough,” tell us what the organization expected to change and what people actually did afterward.
